"That's strange," thought Dick. "The bells sound like thy're calling to me"I read Dick Whittington, a level 4 book in USBORN FIRST READING.
"They're telling me to go back," he realized.
Dick Whittington lived on his own, in the country and he was very poor. So he had no fancy clothes, yummy food, and a warm, dry home. So he went to London to work and earn some money. But in London, nobody wanted help. He was tired and fell asleep on the steps of a big house. The next morning, Mr. Fitzwarren who lived in the big house gave Dick a job. He was very happy with his job! His bedroom was small, but he glad that he could sleep on his own bed. When he began to fall asleep, many mouses appeared from the hole in the floorboards so he could't sleep. A week later, Mr. Fitzwarren gave Dick the first salary. Dick went the big city market to buy something. He bought the big cat to chase away many mouses in his bedroom. Dick named the cat Tom and Tom chased the mouses. So Dick could sleep well. But he sold Tom to get more money so he couldn't sleep again. Mr. Fitzwarren came back and gave him much money because the king of Barbary bought Tom! Then, Dick became one of the richest men in the city.
